CAUSES OF LIOMENOPROSOPOPHOBIA

Liomenoprosopophobia can be caused by any of the following traumatic events:
-
Watching a movie or TV show that contains a scene where a fictional character's face m*lts off
-
Witnessing a real-life person's face m*lting off from exposure to dangerous chemicals or gases (e.g., hydrofluoric acid, fire, etc.)
-
Having a real-life person's face (whether it's the sufferer's or someone else's) come in close proximity to an open flame
-
Experiencing a chemical or burn injury firsthand that results (either in part or in whole) in the sufferer's own face m*lting off
The intensity of the cause can be amplified if the sufferer has an underlying fear of losing control, a fear of d**th (Thanatophobia) and/or a fear of hot weather or heat (Aestophobia), but these underlying phobias can vary from person to person.
Other big risk factors of phobia formation may include Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or autism.
The phobia may also be stronger and more deeply-rooted if it was first developed in the sufferer's formative years, which takes place before the prefrontal cortex of the brain has been fully developed (25 years), causing the line between the sufferer's perception of reality and fantasy to be much more blurred than it is later in life.
